Semilla Besada is a research conservation farm, using
Holistic Management® for the first time in Europe for sustainable
brittle landscape restoration and management.
At least 70% of the world's landmass is brittle, and these areas
are desertifying at a staggering 400,000 acres a day*. The UN admitted
last year that despite 50 years of research the world was no nearer to
finding a solution to desertification. (* - UN statistics)
The Mediterranean is a brittle
landscape and the forecast for the Alpujarras is that this area will
be a desert in 15 years time. This situation fuels our commitment to
the research and development work at Semilla Besada, where pivotal
insights are being used to reverse desertification.
Chances are
Chances are that you are living in a brittle environment. The
research and development work at Semilla Besada is of pivotal
importance to you. The implications of the insights that come with
Holistic Management are almost unknown in Europe, despite many areas
being brittle environments.
Brittle landcapes in Europe
Brittle landscapes all over the world are degenerating faster than
they can be conserved, with the attendant social and economic
collapse. All social and economic wellbeing is derived from healthy
landscapes. When the environment collapses, so does the social and
economic infrastructure upon which we all depend. The Mediterranean
and other brittle landscapes in Europe are those which are most
vulnerable.
For the sake of our grandchildren
When we add the statistics about the rate of desertification to
the amount of arable land, we come up with the shocking statistic
that within 3 generations there will be no more land capable of
generating food … that’s within the lifetime of our grandchildren.
We believe we owe them more than that.
Your support
Charitable organisations are one of the largest growing sectors
in the economy, and members of the public have almost become inured
to the constant pleas for support. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by
additional demands for our attention and support. At Semilla Besada,
we understand this and so have a structured support process which is
tailored to your needs.
