Semilla Besada is a 12 hectare (30 acre) research conservation
farm situated at 1300m on the southern slopes
of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain.
It has been developed using Permaculture and Holistic
Management® principles in order to research and develop
sustainable land stewardship practices.
|
Semilla Besada is the only research conservation farm in Europe,
using Holistic Management® for sustainable land stewardship in brittle
landscapes.
Seventy per-cent of the world's landmass is brittle, and it is
these areas that are desertifying at a staggering 162,000 hectares
(400,000 acres) a day*.
The Mediterranean is such a landscape, and yet certain pivotal
insights that are successfully reversing desertification in Africa,
Australia and America are unknown here.
For the first time in Europe, Semilla Besada is using this knowledge
to faciliate sustainable land stewardship in brittle landscapes.

Shaping the future
We know that every decision we make shapes our future. We know
that if we want to have a future, we need to make sustainable
decisions in the present. Semilla Besada uses Holistic Management as
a decision-making framework and Permaculture as a design tool, to
work towards creating that future.
