Semilla Besada Ethics Page

Holistic Management® provides us with the structure for making decisions which move us consistently towards social, economic and environmental sustainability, whilst creating the quality of life to which we are aspiring. This means that every decision is subjected to a minimum of seven testing questions. Once a decision is taken the results are monitored and any adjustments made to ensure we consistently keep on track.

Environmental Ethics

We are committed to accepting our responsibility to the environment, and to future generations, in our management of Semilla Besada as a small-scale research farm. As a result we place the environment top of the agenda through:
  • limiting visitors to the number that the environment can support
  • using renewable energy sources wherever possible
  • ensuring that the services we provide do not damage the environment
  • providing bio-degradable cleaning and body-care products for visitors in order to avoid damaging soil microbiology
  • re-using all grey-water
  • offering information and educational opportunities for visitors to help them soften their impact on the environment.
  • researching ways in which we can safeguard the environment even better than we do currently
  • working on a 'repair rather than replace' policy with regard to all maintainance at Semilla Besada.

Social Ethics

The environment is not the only consideration in our management of Semilla Besada. We believe that it is important to be sensitive to the social implications in our relationships with our local and international community by always working towards:
  • treating everyone with attention, respect and understanding
  • communicating clearly and effectively
  • fostering feelings of connection, support, trust, confidence, responsibility and self-esteem
  • accommodating short-falls and concerns with consideration and positive action
  • expanding our social skills

Economic Ethics

As we work on a holistic decision-making basis, economics is also included alongside social and environmental considerations. However, we believe that we can create income-generating activities which still reflect wholesome values by ensuring that:
  • any action taken is sustainable
  • investments are made wherever possible with organisations that are committed to accepting social and environmental responsibility
  • we consistently work within our means by maintaining a debt-free status
  • we generate income based on our need rather than our greed
  • we seek to complement what others do rather than compete
  • 25% of our work is 'pro-bono'
