Supporting small dryland initiatives helps shape the future of the world


Semilla Besada is a family farm where the focus is the creation of a model of sustainable living in a dryland environment. Each year we build on the previous year's successes, and as this Powerpoint presentation shows (click to view), we are making a difference.

We know you have many areas of concern and you cannot act directly in all of them. However by making a donation to the work of Semilla Besada, you can help to bring new insights to dryland design and management, which are reversing desertification in three continents.

If you live in a temperate or tropical country, there are many other environmental challenges which are pressing. A dryland environment may seem the least of your worries. However, with such landscapes desertifying at a staggering 16,000 hectares a day, dryland environments must be of concern to us all.

What your donations will fund

  • Design and building of wind-resistance solar oven
  • Repair of stone wall terracing
  • Planting of indigenous and drought adapted trees, shrubs and plants
  • Expansion of educational opportunities and training
  • Introduction of indigenous and dryland adapted livestock
  • Increased fencing around our land to bring more areas under our management
